ONION SIZING

Here at Jumosol in Spain we grade into four sizes and use three Tong Peal screens 1500mm wide.  These give up to 20 tonnes per hour capacity with good separation and careful handling.

Hexagonal screens are used in metal or rubber construction.

Each screen sizer has one variable speed motor to control the forward speed of the screen.

Another variable speed motor controls the agitation of the screen to get the best separation of onion sizes with the minimum of movement - this is crucial for gentle handling with no bruising.

Because there is more crop on the first screen and progressively less on the second and third screens it is important to have full flexibility in screen speeds and agitation to make the job correctly.
